KEEP UP, THEN CATCH UP---MY NEW BLOG MOTTO! JANUARY, 2011!

Any of you who ever look at this blog, know that I am way behind with my posting. The good excuse for such a thing is partly that I have been trying since the end of November to make a DVD of 2010 for the missionaries. I wanted everyone who had served in the mission the whole year to be in it, and 3 or so pictures of each missionary who was here at Christmas time since this was to be the Christmas gift. We thought we were ready to go a couple days before the December group of departing missionaries left. However, as we tried to burn the final product, we lost the whole thing. (People who don't know what they are doing shouldn't try such a thing.) I have been attempting since that time when I have some free time to regroup pictures and put them together again. I thought the final product was ready to burn last Saturday, and had the assistants come watch to make sure I did not have duplicates on the baptism pictures. However, there were some glitches and some pictures in the final showing did not even show up. Where is Justin (my son-in-law who makes videos) when I need him? Anyway, I am taking time off the DVD and promise to get this blog updated. I will get January-March, 2011 pictures on, and then finish up last year's. I will date them in order, so you will need to go to older posts to see last year's photos. There are some great ones, and we have lots of great new missionaries, so you will want to check them out.
Romanian Lundberg Family 2011

Our dear friend, Traian, celebrated his 31st birthday with us on January 1. He is a member of the Mihai Bravu branch and a good "brother" for Joshua.

Traian also teaches Joshua piano lessons. We hope Joshua will be as amazing at the piano someday as Traian is.

We had a Family Home Evening one night about "Making Your Mark," sharing a cute story that Brigham and Kristen sent us for Christmas. We all made some oil paintings that night and saved the pictures to remember the importance of making a difference in our lives.

The VanOrmans are our good friends and office couple. They do an amazing job in helping to keep this mission running smoothly. They came over one Friday night when President Lundberg was out of town to have dinner and play games with Joshua and me.

It has been very cold this winter. We went to the train station one cold January to pick up a friend, and saw this scene at the park across the street. Sometimes we forget to be grateful for the comforts of life such as a warm place to live, food to eat, and people to love us.

Sorin Sapanaru is a friend from many years ago. He came and stayed with us a few days over the holidays. He is a great young man and it was good to see him. He is trying on his new scarf.

Aren't these cute? Well, three of our sister missionaries are wearing these cute Wellies. They are very big here and Sora Fraser says they are also very big in England, where she is from. I loved them so much, that the sisters took me shopping on preparation day to a store where I could find them. They did not have plaid ones my size, so I got black ones with big white stars. They are really fun, but I am waiting for a little warmer temperatures before I wear them. I need the fur-lined boots for now!

These are the cute girls that belong on the top of the Wellies (pictured above!)
Sora Mullen, Sora Olson, and Sora Fraser---what a threesome!

Elder Mathis and Elder Suppes, our assitants, pose by the picture board in the stairwell. Missionaries love to gather around the picture board and look at pictures of not only our beautiful children and grandchildren, but wedding announcements and Christmas cards from missionaries families and returned missionaries. If you aren't on that board, it means you haven't sent me a picture of you.

When the missionaries go home, their picture is put on our "Tied to Romania" wall. The elders' pictures are mounted on the back part of a tie they leave with me, and the sisters and senior couples are mounted on a scarf. The misisonaries also like gathering around this display, remembering the ties that their companions often wore.

We went to District Meeting one cold January morning with the district from Mihai Bravu. I was so impressed with these great missionaries. They are defining their areas of where they will teach and preach and work as missionaries do. Elder Betteridge is writing while to his left, Elder James, Elder Schank, and Elder Johnson look on. On the left are Elder Simmons and somebody else (this is why I need to post immediately---especially when I can't see their faces!)

District Meeting was held at senior couple, Elder and Sora Linerud's home. They served Subway Sandwiches for lunch! Now, before anybody thinks that Subway has arrived in Romania, it has not. But you would never have known because our lunch seemed like a perfect trip to Subways---complete with chips, sandwhiches wrapped in tissue paper and put in bags, and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups from America for dessert. Thanks, Lineruds!

(l to rt): Joshua, President Lundberg, Elder and Sora Linerud, Sora VanOrman, Sora and Elder Dummar, and Elder VanOrman.
The Senior Missionaries in Bucharest had a "field trip" to the concert. The music was absolutely beautiful. Joshua was even enthralled with the evening as well listening to overtures from West Side Story and Indiana Jones. (Sidenote: Sora VanOrman and I met a retired English teacher in the long lines of the women's restroom at intermission and that lady has been to church twice and Family Home Evening twice! She is also reading the Book of Mormon!)

Beautiful concert hall and orchestra!

Elder Rassmussen munches on carmel corn and visits with me while his companions is being interviewed by President Lundberg.

Elder Olson and Elder Boehme are our current office elders. They are always helping with books, supplies, visas, papers to be signed and filed, errands, etc. We love them and could not do without them.

Elder Ransom in his căciulă. The missionaries buy these great fur hats in Moldova. They are perfect for a cold, winter day. This one is made from rabbit, I think. One elder has one that looks like it is made from a cow!

Elder Suppes turns 21! Happy Birthday, Elder Suppes!

Elder Chevrier, Elder Betteridge, Elder Whiting, and Elder Frandsen visit a few minutes after mission council.

Elder Suppes, tired Elder Johnson, Elder Bennett, and Elder Brunner prepare to head back to missionary work after "sharpening the saw" at Mission Council.

Friends, Elder Toronto and Elder Shillabeer, are glad to see each other again.

Sisters, Sora Wilson and Sora Hupp, add the feminine touch to Mission Council. Elder Sullivan brings the spirit by sharing his amazing talent on the piano.

President Lundberg prepares to run Elder Whiting and Elder Chevrier to the train station to begin their long journey back to the country of Moldova. These elders are two of our Russian-speaking missionaries who are serving as zone leaders.

Joshua went Visiting Teaching with me to Dina's home. Her dog had a new litter of puppies, and Joshua was thrilled. Dina also has five cats!

Dina Cojacaru and her granddaughter, Dahlia. Dina is one of our official translators for the church. She often translates the general authorities' talks for general conference. She also is great to translate my talks for me into Romanian. She's wonderful.

The new mother and her babies! Dina found this dog on the street and took her in. Shortly after, Dina had MANY dogs in her apartment!

Josh is HUGE! I can't believe how tall he is. Also, Parley loved seeing your pictures pop up on the screen. He keeps talking about you. And, I think you need to take a picture of your star wellies! Can't wait to see them.

Oh, and I meant to say how cute the Linerud's Subway sandwiches thing looked. Where did they get the hats?

Great post! It is fun to see all the wonderful things you have done in the mission. It's also fun to get to know (or at least see) the new missionaries.

Like Erika, I'd like to see the wellies too!
